A New Subtitle

I'm trying on a new subtitle for my blog.

I've thought about doing this for many months.  I just feel the new subtitle more accurately encompasses the message I want to send with each post I write (and the ones I've already written).

There is no one more important in our lives than ourselves.  After all, we have to live with who we are every single day.  And there's no escaping that person, even though we may want to (and even try to).

All good things come from the relationship we have with ourselves.  If we don't feel good about who and what we are, then chances are those who are most important to us won't be either.  So we have a responsibility, first, to ourselves, and then to others, to be all we can be, all we were intended to be.

That's a lot of work, I realize, but it's also called life.  It's why we're here–each of us trying to be the best version of himself.

Fortunately, we are not alone on our journey; we have each other–all of us at different places on our own paths–to learn from.  This has become so clear to me over the years, as I've received comments and emails from young people in particular, with questions that an older person, like me, who's been there, can answer for them.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to be of service whenever I can.  I only hope what I know to be true, based on my own experience, makes a difference in the life of someone else.

That's all I can ask for, and all that really matters.

    1. Thanks for your kindness, Topper. I only hope to make someone else's journey as a gay person a little easier.

  3. I like your new direction! I've come to understand that being OK with myself is the way to go. I can't take being gay to a higher level because the thinking has a flaw in it. It makes me compare myself to others and this will result in me falling not getting higher on the long run. A great naturalist has said that one thing that a person needs to avoid is centering everything in one's life to a single characteristic. I don't need to take being gay to another level, I need to be one with myself. What being one with myself will be one thing for me and other thing for another person. Hence, comparing levels is quite hard and therefore getting to this ultimate level is in my opinion impossible.

    1. Elevencats, first, I'm THRILLED to hear from you after all this time. It pleases me that you're still interested in my blog, enough to check it out and leave comments.

And second, the subtitle I had before the new one wasn't "taking gay to the next level" (I think I used that a long time ago); rather, it was "Together, Elevating the Experience of Being Gay." And I suggested we got there "by understanding, accepting, and loving ourselves."

I hate to think you might have thought you got there by comparing yourself to others, or that there was pressure to get there based on other gay people. That's not at all what I intended to say with my words, and I hope I haven't made things more difficult for you.

But you raise a wonderful point. You write: "I don't need to take being gay to another level, I need to be one with myself." I couldn't have said it better myself. I hope the truth of your statement is somehow captured in the new subtitle.

Thank you for your feedback and your insight. I really appreciate it.

(And if you are ever so inclined, please send me a quick email to let me know how you're doing. I'd really like to hear from you again.)
